16 Habits of people who are incredibly organized
Save for later 🙂
1. They have a daily routine
All organized people run their day. Their day doesn’t run them.
And they do this by following a daily routine. The reason this is so important is that it structures our day and gives us something to look forward to in our day.
A routine immediately organizes and structures my day and I feel in control of my day.
With no routine and no structure, life becomes directionless and messy naturally, which is the case for most of us.
Just creating a simple daily routine can also work wonders. It’s okay to be flexible.
2. They follow a daily to-do list
All organized people have a habit of writing a daily to-do list which they write down the previous day, or at the beginning of each day.
And they keep this to-do list close to them which they can easily see.
I keep my daily to-do list in front of my eyes by pinning it on my bulletin board.
3. They schedule tasks to be organized
And the other incredible habit of organized people is that they don’t just set down things to do on their to-do list, but schedule them too.
This way they don’t just leave it up to chance, but actually make sure they do it by simply setting a schedule for it.
If something doesn’t fit into their schedule, they delegate or keep it for another day.
4. They utilize the start of every month to plan their month
All organized people know that the start of a new month is very important and so they utilize it to plan their month ahead.
They set their monthly goals based on their yealy vision and do many other things to keep everything in check and organized.
If you want to know what organized people do every month to inspire you to do the same, then here are 12 things to do at the beginning of every month.
P.S. If you are ready to give a try at working on yourself and changing your life, I have recently created a Special challenge/Guide for you to Change your Life in 7 days.
I think you’ll love it if you give it a try for 7 days and see what’s possible for you.
5. They utilize their sunday to plan their week
A month is a lot of days, so to better organize their month, organized people make use of sunday to plan their new week.
Here are some of the things they do every Sunday
- They set down their weekly goals
- plan ahead their essential tasks of the week and schedule it
- look at their money situation
- set a weekly budget for the next week
- prepare a meal plan
- prepare their outfits for the week ahead
- do the laundry
- clean one area of their home
6. Organized people write down everything
Organized people know that they shouldn’t trust their minds to remember things. Plus they know that remembering things on their head is a lot of work and a cause of unnecessary stress.
So they make sure they write everything down.
They write down deadlines. They write down things to buy. They write down things to do, and basically anything worth writing, they write it down on a notebook or a piece of paper.
7. Organized people make lists
As they write everything down, they know the power of list-making and have a list of everything.
To know what lists they absolutely have, here are the 12 lists organized people keep.
8. They make their bed instantly
They never keep a messy bed, and the first thing they do upon waking up is to make their bed.
They are instant in making their bed, and it’s these small habits such as these that have a hand in organizing their life.
9. They have a system they follow to stay organized
All organized people have a system they use to stay organized.
Though not incredibly organized, I could call myself pretty organized, and here’s the system I use:
I use notion to organize my blog, use a notebook to organize other things, use goodnotes and google drive folders to organize things related to my college work.
For my day to day organization, I use a planner, a simple physical to-do list and my notebook. I tried going digital, but it didn’t work well for me.
Other organized people use
- Trello
- Evernote
- Asana
- ClickUp
And all such systems to keep them organized. Experiment and find what works best for you.
10. They have a home for everything
My boyfriend is the most organized person I know, and he always says, ‘Everything has a place, and every place has a thing’.
He keeps things in their rightful place so he never has to go through the trouble of finding things he needs it.
11. They keep things in their rightful place right away
Just having a home for everything is not enough if every time you use it, you forget to keep it in its right place.
As I said, my boyfriend is one of the most organized people I know, and it’s amazing how he keeps things in their rightful place right away.
Most of the time we say we’ll keep it later, even though it just takes 2-3 minutes of our time, but still, we feel lazy.
But actually, by keeping things in their rightful place, we are actually saving more time for the future and reducing the hassle and extra work.
12. Organized people clean mess instantly
Organized people know that mess is the main thing that makes us feel unorganized. They know that a physical mess creates a mental mess and a mental mess influences a physical mess.
So they clean the mess as they go.
If they use the kitchen, after using it, they clean it up and don’t wait for later.
After using their desk, they tidy it up instantly.
After eating, they clean the table instantly.
This not only keeps them organized but also saves them time.
13. They don’t multitask
Multitasking is the key to disorganization and a messy mind. Organized people don’t multitask and do one thing at a time.
14. Organized people declutter regularly
They set specific days for decluttering too, and they declutter regularly. Here are some things they purge and declutter regularly
- Bag
- Wardrobe
- Purse
- Desk
- Fridge
- Drawer
- Screenshots
- Emails
15. They clean one area of their home every week
They set up a specific day(s) to clean one area of their home every week so they always have a neat, tidy and organized home.
Here are certain habits of people with organized homes
16. They don’t put off things for later
Lastly, organized people don’t procrastinate and put off things for later. They follow the practice of the 2-minute rule: If it takes less than 2 minutes, then do it immediately, otherwise schedule it or delegate it.
The things that they do put off immediately go to their to-do list or list of pending things to do, and schedule when it should get done.
If you want to finally break free from procrastination, here are my 4 tips to overcome procrastination.
Pin for later 🙂
So these are the habits that all organized people have in common. Start incorporating little by little and you can turn your life around from a mess to something you will be happy and proud of.

Don’t agree with making bed instantly. Give it a chance to cool and air. Take shower and get dressed (or partly) then make bed.

Whatever suits you. What matters is you don’t keep your bed unmade and untidy all through the day. Making bed first thing in the morning works for me and gets those lazy feelings away 🙂

So true, i don’t do them all, but more than a half, which sounds great for self esteem. For me, sundays are more stressful if I leave the week-to-do-list (work stuff) to that day. I try to make a list of important stuff to deal within the next week by friday. I also try not to stress with non organized people, it’s a challenge, actually. They also work hard, unorganized people are not necessarily lazy. Maybe we, lists-lovers, are just anxious (no problem), and organization is a nice way to have a sense of (good) control.

Thank you so much for this post, this was so encouraging and made me feel so hopeful! I consider myself a pretty organized person, although I absolutely found room for improvement 🙂 sometimes I’ve found success in multi-tasking, especially if I’m on the phone (because I can’t seem to sit down when I have my ear buds in). My desire is to find a better flow for when the kids are at school, and these tips have helped a lot! Thank you so Much! Go forth and be organized!

I got a few great ideas to add to my organization style, so thank you! Also, tell your boyfriend that the saying goes, “A place for everything, and everything in its place” and not “every place has a thing.” I personally LOVE any open space I have. It’s almost a sense of pride knowing I have everything organized so well that I now have areas with no clutter, nothing but an open space where the wall meets the floor. More space to roam, per se. Thanks again for the blog!

Same goes with me. I love to have open spaces and always make sure that my home is not getting cluttered with too many things. And sure, I will tell my boyfriend about that. lol. Glad to know you found my tips helpful 🙂
