Hi There!
Thanks for stopping by!
I am Vishaka Blone. I am 28 years old and I come from Siliguri (Darjeeling), India.
I live with my mother and my dog, Bella. I love them both and among other things I love include sunshine, mountains, music, books, animals, and long walks.
Professionally, I am an Assistant professor in Kolkata where I teach Sociology. I love teaching too. It satisfies me.
Regarding this blog, I started it to share all the things that have/ is helping me on my journey towards simplicity, growth, mindfulness, self improvement and more peace and freedom.
And so these are the things you will find here. I also want to document my life and be more transparent through writing in this blog.
I hope you find inspiration here.
How it all started- long story
The year was 2013 and the month was January. I had dropped out of college in 2nd year when I was studying economics honors.
That was a totally different phase of my life and perhaps a messy one. I was a distracted, underconfident, timid, and a super skinny girl.
I had come back home dejected and aimless. However, the 5-6 months period where I was just left on my own was the life turning point for me.
It was a blessing in disguise.
From being consumed with guilt and regret for a long period of time, I finally decided that I had to use the time instead for self-reflection and self-improvement.
Through coincidence or through fate, there were two books lying in the shelf- one was the book ‘The Monk who sold his Ferrari’ by Robin Sharma and the other was a book on Buddhism.
Even though being born a Buddhist myself, I had never really given any time to know its teaching.
Learning about the Buddha’s teachings really moved me as I realized how practical, rational, and applicable its teachings were even now and indeed now, more than ever.
As I slowly took steps to improve myself, I began to feel so thankful that this phase was actually an opportunity for me to prepare myself, know myself, and to heal myself from the past unhealthy state of mind and lifestyle.
Since then I worked on myself and cultivated many good habits that I have been able to retain till now.
And so here in this blog, I now write about my journey, what I learn, what has worked and is working for me in easy actionable ways so that you can easily apply them too.
Also, through this blog, I now write not just for myself in my diary, but also for you, for the world.
In 2016 I went for my first 10 days Vipassana Retreat as taught by S.N Goenka at Boddhagaya. It was another life-changing experience for me.
If you want to read more about what changes I made in myself and what I have been able to achieve so far, here I have written it all down. It was my first blog post:
So here it was about me. With this I welcome you to my blog once again.
With Love,
Vishaka
