~ If you want to have a wonderful life, bring all your focus to creating a wonderful day. And if you want to have a wonderful day, bring all your focus to creating a wonderful morning ~
Becoming a morning person has changed my life. I have come to realize that investing time in the morning is investing time for our life’s mission and happiness.
So before you invest in your morning time, you would want to eliminate all chances of risk so as to have a safe and healthy morning. Thus here are the 10 things you must never ever do in the morning.

1. Waking up late
This might sound silly, but if you wake up late then you will have no time for yourself, no time to allow yourself to prepare for your day.
Always, I repeat, always create some time (at least 1 hour) in the morning for yourself, for your growth, for your happiness and mental health.
The first hour after waking up must be solely for nurturing yourself. Hence the first thing you must never do in the morning is wake up late and thereby not have time for yourself in the morning.
If you are uncertain about how to spend your morning that will energise you here is a morning routine guide for you: The 5 sacred ingredients for a powerful morning routine
And here is my Morning Routine: Things I do before 8 am
2. Staying in bed even after waking up
If you stay in your bed even after waking up for a long time because you don’t know what else to do, then you must stop this habit immediately. Rise up immediately after waking up and meet yourself fully. So after waking up, get up, rise up and be thankful.
If you think you lack self Discipline, then here are my 3 tricks to build Self Discipline
3. Checking social media first thing in the morning:
This one is the main culprit that is ruining your day and making you feel out of sorts. You must never ever start your day checking your phone and scrolling through Facebook or Instagram.
There was a time when I used to do the same. But once I stopped doing so, I realised how strongly this small habit affects our mood and our entire day.
I know the urge feels great. It has become almost like a reflex for many of us. Your hand goes immediately to your phone but please, please restrain yourself from it. Even if you do check your phone, DO NOT open social media.
Small tip: Keep it logged out the night before.
The reason is that our mind is calm in the morning. Once we check our phone we immediately become distracted. Our mind gets bombarded with notifications, images and news of what others are doing early in the morning. We then lose our focus and our sense of time. And this pattern goes all throughout the day.
I personally check social media only after I finish all my tasks. If I check it anytime before that, my focus gets destroyed and I get distracted.
I will then not feel like doing what I am really supposed to do. Distraction early morning means distraction all through the day. My mind feels heavy and burdened. This disrupts our mental calmness.
P.S. If you are ready to give a try at working on yourself and changing your life, I have recently created a Special challenge/Guide for you to Change your Life in 7 days.
I think you’ll love it if you give it a try for 7 days and see what’s possible for you.
4. Keeping bed unmade:
For a long time, I did not know how our surrounding (the room where we spend the most time in) and our life state is intimately connected. But now I do.
When I make my bed and when my room is clean and tidy, even my mind feels light and clear. I feel active and my mood brightens up.
Whereas when my bed is messy, even my mind feels messy and I can’t seem to function properly. This is really the case.
So if you think that not making your bed and keep it as it is for night time is okay and that it doesn’t affect you, then you’re totally wrong. Make your bed right away! You will be surprised at how good doing this small thing will make you feel.
5. Not opening windows and getting natural light and fresh air:
We are human beings. We are natural beings. Being close to nature thrives our heart and mind. So be open to nature. Open your windows and curtains once you wake up and let in the natural light and air. Get some natural light and air after waking up. It will also help you in driving away your sleep.
6. Not having a productive morning routine
A tree is beautiful because it grows. Plants are beautiful because it grows and gives us flowers. We, humans, are also beautiful when we grow. And we can grow only in action. We grow when we do things that add meaning and value to our life. We grow when we feel satisfied with what we do.
I know most of us don’t wake up early because you don’t know what to do after waking up early. That is why, in order to kill time, people wake up late.
I know this because even I used to fall under this category. My father used to wake me up early morning and I used to scream back saying I don’t have anything to do after waking up!
But now you know, I have a completely different view. I will never let my morning time go waste by not doing anything. Never ever let your morning time go by doing insignificant things.
You must fill your morning with positivity and productivity. You must do something that you will be thankful for in the morning. Never ever spend your morning time idling away. In this time, prepare yourself for the day.
Here are 5 ideas to create a powerful morning routine.
Here is what I do in the morning: My morning routine before 8 am
We must cherish our growth. You will be amazed at how smoothly your day will go once you strive on growing and filling your morning with productivity and positivity.
7. Having coffee as your first drink
The first drink in the morning after you wake up must never be coffee. The reason is that drinking coffee affects our cortisol level, the one which helps in maintaining our energy. It increases our cortisol level and increased cortisol can lead to increased blood sugar, sleep problems and alterations in the way our immunity functions. It also increases anxiety.
Check this post out for a more detailed reason: Why you shouldn’t drink coffee on an empty stomach
So why should you alter your body’s natural energy level early morning? Have your coffee after 9:30 am. But drink warm water first thing in the morning. I drink warm lemon water in the morning
8. Not sitting in silence
The first person you must meet in the morning is yourself. And we can meet our self fully only in silence. Silence nourishes our soul. And morning time is the perfect time for you to nourish yourself and meet yourself.
But I know many people, who after waking up immediately start talking. And this talk leads to talking and gossiping about other people and things right from early morning.
Never ever start your day talking and gossiping about someone else or any kind of issue. Reserve your morning silence. Keep this time solely for yourself and don’t allow anyone, not even yourself to disrupt your peace of mind.
9. Not being grateful and Complaining
We have a huge hand in making our day good and meaningful or messed up and dreary.
If complaints are what you do the morning or if you find things to complain about from early morning- from the weather to your work or anything, then chances are you will have more things to complain about all through the day.
If you have the habit of complaining about the minutest things, I say straight on that “You will never be happy in your days and life will feel miserable”
You should never begin your day with complaints. Complains drain our energy. How you begin your morning, the words you say, the thoughts you think all shape up your day and your life.
Start finding the minutest things to be grateful about. Make sure you are saying and feeling only wonderful things.
Upon waking up fill your heart with gratitude before anything else for your life, for your body, for your health, for your loved ones, for the water, for the air, for your dreams and for everything else.
“‘If you say but only one prayer, make it thank you’. ” -Rumi
10. Not moving
Never ever just lie in your bed or in your couch after waking up. Be up and moving. Charge yourself with a good walk or exercise.
There are tons of really good free apps which can help you to exercise. Give your body its due return and help your body work better for you!
I exercise every morning for 30-45 minutes and I cannot express how much good I feel after a good workout! Then taking bath after a good workout freshens and recharges me up even more for the day ahead!
I hope you give up on these toxic morning habits immediately and no longer postpone your right to wellbeing, happiness and peace.

Give up that Toxic Morning habit of making your bed without airing it for at least 1 hour.
Making your bed straight away, without airing it, make it an ideal breeding ground for dust mites, very toxic if you have asthma or breathing problems, they need a warm, damp place to breed. At the end of the day you be returning to a damp, smelly, bug infested bed. Ugh!
Instead, throw back those covers, open the window and let the air get to your bed, after one hour, make your bed. At the end of the day you will return to a dry, fresh smelling, bug free bed. Aaahhhh
If having a messy bed for just 1 hour is a problem for you then that is a sign you have mental health issues that need attending to.

I’ve been making my bed first thing in the morning for all these years and I haven’t had any bug problems nor a smelly bed so far! If it did, I wouldn’t be writing about it. Please be happy with your bed and keep it made/unmade for as many hours you want if that is bringing you mental peace.
