We may not be proper scientists working in a proper laboratory, but we can all work on the science of our own personal discovery because isn’t life the grandest of all laboratories? Of late, I have been going by this spirit- the spirit of experimenting with life and I think I will be making this my mantra for my whole life.
So today on this short blog post I want to elaborate more on this spirit of experimenting with life and why it is incredibly important especially when our whole lives are ahead of us.
Whether it was Mark Zuckerberg who created Facebook at first just to experiment if he could create a place that could help students of his college connect with one another or J.K Rowling who despite her dire circumstances experimented with her ideas for Harry Potter for more than 10 years. The examples are many.
All great successes first begins with the spirit of experimenting.
‘But they are Mark Zuckerberg and J.K Rowling. What can experimenting do for us?’
Well, lets probe into that.
Experimenting allows you to get started and see what happens
Table of Contents
Experiment by definition means, ‘a scientific procedure undertaken to make a discovery, test a hypothesis, or demonstrate a known fact’
We, humans, are inherently born with curiosity. We want to see what happens next and next. No wonder why most of us binge-watch entire series of episodes.
When you go by the spirit of experimenting with life, you intend to make a discovery, you intend to test a hypothesis about your own self, your own capabilities and your own beliefs.
So go by the spirit of experimenting and just experiment to see what happens.
- Buy a diary and experiment how you feel after writing one page in a journal
- You don’t have to become a morning person, but you can atleast experiment to see what happens if you start waking up early and have a morning routine.
- You don’t have to be a full on environmentalist but you can just experiment to see in what ways you can reduce your plastic intake.
- You don’t have to be so focused on losing weight or gaining weight but just experiment to see what happens if you exercise daily.
Life is too short to not experiment.
Experiment with life and see what is good for you, what is possible for you, and what brings you true happiness.
This blogging journey is also a part of my experiment. I wanted to see if I could write and I don’t know if it is good or bad, but it turns out I can. I still want to see what happens next.
Experimenting reduces the burden of fear
Most of us are too afraid to start something new or even if we do get started we are too afraid to keep going.
There are all kinds of fear:
- the fear of putting our work out there
- the fear of being judged
- the fear of failure
- the fear of making ourselves look foolish
- the fear of not giving our best
- the fear of not being successful even after giving our best. It is almost endless.
But when you go by the spirit of experimenting, this burden of fear reduces.
It doesn’t matter much what happens on the other side of the action. It may be a positive result or it may not be. You are only testing yourself. You are only experimenting. So the fear minimizes.
What you learn out of the experiment is more important and it is all up to you and for you.

Experimenting allows you to ditch perfectionism
One thing that the spirit of experimenting greatly relieves us from, is the pressure of being perfect. The greatest hindrance to progress is perfectionism but when we experiment, the last thing we are aiming for is to be perfect.
The objective of your personal experiment is not to be perfect but it is
- to see what happens
- to find out what you are capable of being and doing
- to test your potential
- to learn from your mistakes
- to discover something you didn’t know about yourself or your future
- and mostly, we experiment so that we grow and improve without beating ourselves us for perfection.
So keep experimenting and don’t give up before you even try.
As for me, it is this spirit of experimenting that is helping me be consistent in this blogging journey even though at first I had no idea about how it works. Now in one year, I have learned so much and continue to learn.
I can’t wait to see where this will go and what happens if I don’t give up. There has been so much progress.
So let us have this spirit of experimenting with life and do the things we have thought of doing but haven’t started yet.
Maybe it’s starting your youtube channel. Experiment and see what happens if you upload a vlog every day.
Maybe it’s starting your own small business. Experiment to see what happens. There is really no harm.
And if you are still facing doubt, experiment to see what happens if you start believing in yourself and go against all odds.
Thank you
I wish you a great week ahead.
