Of late I am realising the fact that if we really want to lead a meaningful life, firstly we need to be okay with wasting our time. You might think this is counterintuitive but here is why I say so.
Whenever we strive to start something new, learn something new or work on our dreams and goals everything can feel daunting. Theres too many mistakes, the progress seems hardly visible and we feel like we’re wasting our time.
We humans always want to stay in the certain so whenever we feel we’ve reached a dead end or when uncertainty seems too big, the feeling and the thought that we might be wasting our time is what actually stops us from getting ahead.
At other times we don’t even start something new or do something we always want to do fearing that it will take a long time. We feel that all the things that we do in order to get there will be a total waste of time. Hence we don’t take the chance, we don’t take the risk for we fear wasting our time greatly.
I realise this happens too often. But true progress can happen only when we move past this fear.
And how do we move past this fear? By deliberately being okay with wasting our time.
For example, when it comes to writing, you might write 5 pages and not like what you write at all and then feel like you’ve totally wasted all your time and effort. But if you really want to make progess, then you need to be okay with wasting your time and you need to do this time after time.
Its the same with starting to exercise, working on a new habit, learning a new hobby, starting with a research project, starting with a business or anything. You need to be okay with wasting your time.
Because in the learning and doing process you are definitely going to waste a lot of time but as long as you keep going and not get defeated, none of it is actually wasted. All the time you think you are wasting is actually compouding and adding to your success.
Its like telling yourself, ‘I am okay with wasting my time because actually none of it is getting wasted. I am constantly learning and everything is helping me move forward even if it all seems stagnant’
So through this small blog post I just want to tell you that if there is something you are doing or wanting to do but you are fearing it will waste your time, I want you to know that its okay if you feel so. Notice it. Notice your fear and learn to be okay with wasting your time.
As long as you don’t stop and not get discouraged, nothing is wasted. You are learning, you are growing. Everything is helping you move forward but the trick is, to first be okay with wasting your time.
I hope you get me.
I wish you a wonderful week ahead
