I have always been seen as a feminine girl.
My style has always been dresses and ballet shoes, though I’ve not been much of a makeup girlie or jewellery kind of girl.
My friends used to ask me to dress up more casually with Vans and Converse shoes, but somehow that’s just not my style.
People see me as soft and tender, which I do love to accept.
But even then, I never really knew much about femininity or what it meant to embrace my feminine side.
Because as feminine as I may have looked on the outside, I didn’t necessarily feel very feminine on the inside.
Unknowingly, I let my masculine energy run more in my life, where I devoted more time to being the fixer, planner and doer.
I was constantly in that go-go-go mode until, eventually, I became exhausted, fell completely off track and didn’t feel like myself for a very long time.
It was only recently that I started coming across the idea of femininity in a different way and becoming more curious about what it actually means to embrace your feminine side.
So today I want to share this knowledge with you so that you can not only look more feminine but also feel more feminine and enjoy your life more as you embrace this side of yours.

Looking More Feminine
Table of Contents
I’ll start the post by sharing how to look more feminine, but that’s only the start.
So please be sure to read every section.
1. Experiment with Your Wardrobe
Just because people have always seen you in T-shirts and shoes and tomboy clothes doesn’t mean you can’t change your style.
You’ve got only this one life. How would you like to dress and feel?
Dress up beautifully.
Be open to experimenting with your wardrobe.
Look into Pinterest for inspiration for a more feminine style.
What style do you find yourself drawn to?
What do you see yourself wishing to wear?
Go and astonish yourself and astonish people.
To look more feminine, start playing around with dresses and flowing skirts.
Wear fitted tops, soft fabrics and pretty blouses
Choose soft neutrals, creams, pastels or whatever colours make you feel beautiful
Most importantly, choose clothes that make you feel beautiful, graceful and confident.
2. Dress Nicely Even at Home
One thing I started doing ever since COVID was to dress nicely even at home because that made so much difference in how I felt staying at home all day.
And even now, I do the same.
Earlier, I would look like a homeless girl and never buy nice outfits for home or sleepwear.
Now I occasionally buy them and feel cute and nice.
3. Find Your Natural Makeup Routine
I am not a makeup person with elaborate makeup looks, but when I started living with a Gen Z sister, we started experimenting with makeup.
One evening, I went out to buy makeup items, and slowly I’ve built my collection.
As a woman, it felt good to know at least how to do simple makeup for occasional times.
Even just a tinted lip balm, cheek tint, a little eyeliner and mascara can change how you look and feel.
Find a simple everyday routine that enhances your natural features.
4. Find Jewellery That Suits You
I was never a jewellery girl. But I tried incorporating it into my style.
Then I noticed that even just a pair of earrings, a good belt, or a delicate necklace could instantly make my outfit feel more polished.
So if you’re not into jewellery now, just experiment with a few.
Buy a few earrings that could go on different outfits.
For example, I have different set of earring boxes for my Indian style clothes and for my western outfits.
I love wearing a small bindi these days when I am wearing Indian clothes and it instantly makes me look different.
5. Wear Nice Shoes
Don’t underestimate the power of shoes.
Ballet flats, sandals, heels or pretty sneakers can completely change the feeling of an outfit.
Buy one pair of shoes that makes you feel feminine.
6. Find a Signature Scent
This is something I forget for myself.
But whenever I meet some women, the first thing that leaves a mark is their smell.
They smell so nice, and they dress so appropriately.
I would love that for myself too.
Choose a perfume that feels like you.
7. Take Care of Your Hair
Give thought to your hair.
If it’s too rough and dry right now, consider going to the salon for a hair spa or treatment.
Get a new hairstyle and learn to manage your hair well.
It’s astonishing how our hair can completely enhance our face and look.
8. Pay Attention to the Little Details
To feel more feminine, we do need to look more feminine.
Our feelings are also connected to the way we dress, the way we talk, the way we walk and take care of ourselves.
Here are some little details you shouldn’t miss to look and feel more feminine.
- Neat nails (No chipped nails, please. I find that chipped nails show that you give no time to yourself and you don’t love yourself enough)
- Moisturised hands.
- Moisturised face.
- Soft heels (No cracked heels, please. If you have cracked heels, take care of it everyday and show them some love. It’s been carrying you all day, and it deserves your love and attention)
- Pretty sleepwear
- Clean shoes
- Little accessories. They can make everyday life feel more special.
Acting Feminine: Carry Yourself More Feminine
I said it before, and I want to say it again:
To feel more feminine, we do need to look more feminine.
But also, we need to remember that our feelings are connected to the way we carry ourselves in the world and how we show up.
Feminine energy is soft energy.
It does not hurry. It does not rush.
And it can be embodied through our actions and our entire way of being.
So here are some ways to act feminine and carry ourselves in a more feminine way.
It’s a practice, and I too am practising.
9. Talk Softly and Slowly
I see some women and even men who speak slowly, softly and graciously.
Their speech has no rush, and they speak with ease.
They embody grace and calmness. And it shows in their speech.
But I feel it can also be the other way around.
First, be slow and soft in your speech, and that will soon, in turn, reflect in your personality, making you feel calmer and more composed.
For one whole day, try practising speaking slowly, softly and calmly and see if it makes any changes to how you feel.
10. Walk With Grace
Pay attention to your posture and how you carry yourself.
You will find it astonishing how much femininity can also be embodied through our walking.
Walk confidently rather than rushing from one place to another.
Here I’d like to quote the lines on how to walk by the Zen Buddhist Monk Thich Nhat Hanh,
He says, “Walk as if you are kissing the Earth with your feet.”
11. Stop Rushing Everywhere
We live in a fast-paced world. The moment you step outside your house, everyone is rushing.
And this rushing is contagious.
But you can learn to observe this rushing energy and choose to not participate.
And honestly, rushing is exhausting.
Constantly running late, eating quickly and rushing through everything makes us feel irritated and disconnected from ourselves and the world.
To feel more feminine, stop with the rushing.
Give yourself more time.
Do things at a slow, relaxed pace. You will get them done anyway. Enjoy this time.

12. Take Your Time Things
How many times do you do a thing and want to do it fast and get over with it to go do another thing.
You can’t wait to finish your breakfast to go do something else.
You can’t wait to finish the dishes to go do another household chore.
We no longer give time to things.
We don’t give time to learning new things because we want to learn it fast.
We don’t give time to fixing some things because we’re impatient for it to work again.
But rushing is anti-feminine energy.
To counter this, make your morning routine an experience.
Do your skincare slowly.
Drink your tea slowly.
Get dressed without rushing.
There are so many ways to practice this every day.
13. Practice Good Posture
Relax your shoulders, lift your head and allow yourself to take up space confidently.
14. Learn to Pause
You don’t have to respond immediately to everything.
A little pause before speaking can make you feel calmer and more intentional.
15. Make Gentle Eye Contact
Look at people when they’re speaking and allow yourself to be fully present in conversations.
Being More Feminine- Embrace Your Feminine Side
This is where you move beyond appearance and behaviour into how you live and interact with the world.
16. Receive with an Open Heart
We women are born receivers.
We thrive best in receiving.
But we have also forgotten this.
We don’t like to receive. We feel we don’t deserve it or that it’s too good to be true.
When someone gives you compliments, receive them with a thank you instead of saying something like, ““Oh, this old thing?”
When someone gives you kindness or help, receive it without saying, “Oh! I can do it myself. You wouldn’t need to”
When someone gives you gifts, be open to receiving it without thinking what you have to return after.
Stop rejecting the good.
Be open to receiving. And the Universe will give you more good things to receive.
In the morning, you can also add in your prayers, “
“I am open to receiving all the good that you want to give my way”
“I am open to receiving all the good fortune coming my way”
This way you will activate your feminine energy more.
17. Smile More
Smile, not as an effect. But smile as a cause.
What I mean to say is, make your smile a cause for your happiness.
It’s truly amazing how a soft curve in our lips immediately transforms our mood and also our appearance.
Put a half smile on your face for no reason and see it for yourself.
You immediately feel a little uplifted.
Put a half smile on your face more often.
And a genuine smile when meeting people.
It makes you appear warmer and more approachable.
18. Be Warm and Welcoming
If I have to say for myself a quality that I like in me, it is that I like to be warm and welcoming to people, especially when they come to my home.
I want my friends and family to truly feel at home when they’re with me.
I truly wish to leave something good when I meet people.
This is something people will remember too.
And I tend to remember this quote often by Maya Angelo,
“People will forget what you said,
people will forget what you did,
but they will never forget how you made them feel”

19. Become More Emotionally Intelligent
We as women are gifted with more emotions and the ability to feel them.
Sometimes we may feel it is a curse, but it is not.
It is only a curse when we let our emotions rule over us.
It’s a gift when we learn to be emotionally intelligent and recognise our emotions
Instead of immediately reacting to our varied emotions and behaving childishly, we must become more emotionally aware.
20. Become a Better Listener
Put your phone away, listen without interrupting and show genuine interest in what someone is telling you.
21. Allow Yourself to Be Soft
We protect ourselves too much.
We act tough, independent and in control.
We don’t want anyone to see us as weak or sentimental.
But it’s a fool who always tries to play cool.
Learn to be okay with being vulnerable, affectionate, sentimental and gentle.
Learn to be okay with saying, “This affected me”.
Don’t let the world harden you or make you bitter.

23. Pamper Yourself Often
To be and feel more feminine, don’t be too lazy to pamper yourself.
Treat yourself and your body as a prize because it is.
Do you comb your hair, or get too lazy to even comb it when at home?
Do you rush through your showers or take a bath elaborately without rushing?
Here are some ways to pamper yourself often and feel nice and feminine.
- Take long showers
- Go on spa
- Give yourself an occasional manicure and pedicure
- Moisturise your body
- Do your skincare
- Paint your nails.
Make self-care feel like a ritual rather than a chore.
24. Enjoy Feminine Hobbies
Give time to hobbies.
Stop with the grinding and about being in the do-do-do mode.
You don’t always have to work on yourself, your goals or your work.
Give yourself time for boredom and time to do things leisurely.
Go back to the things you used to enjoy doing as a child or at some point in time, but you have forgotten the last time you did them.
- Read
- Bake
- Garden
- Paint
- Journal
- Sew
- Arrange flowers
- Dance, cook, write poetry or explore whatever makes you feel creative and connected to yourself.
25. Create Little Daily Rituals
Light a candle while journaling.
Drink tea from your favourite cup.
Put flowers beside your bed.
Play music while getting ready.
Enjoy life more instead of living life as if like a survival trip.
26. Keep Your Space Beautiful
Your surroundings can influence how you feel.
Keep your bedroom tidy, add flowers or pretty details and create a space that feels peaceful.
27. Romanticise Your Everyday Life
You don’t need an extravagant life to enjoy it.
Put on perfume before running errands.
Take yourself out for coffee.
Wear the pretty dress. Buy yourself flowers.
P.S Romanticise your everyday life as best or as little as you can.
28. Make Your Own Feminine Mood Board
Create a Pinterest board filled with outfits, hairstyles, interiors, flowers, books, routines, colours and women whose style inspires you.
29. Learn More About Femininity
Watch Videos About Femininity.
Read Books About Femininity.
Follow Women Whose Style You Admire.
30. Find Women Who Inspire You

You don’t need to copy them. Use them as inspiration while creating your own version of femininity.
This much for today.
