To create something that is yours down to the detail overcoming all self-doubt, struggles and our own lesser self is a different kind of pleasure.
This year I felt this joy even strongly as my blog continues to grow and impact more people.
I truly believe that the age we are living in right now is the age of creators- creators of just any kind.
As much as consumerism is rising, so are the creators of all sorts.
We are living in a creator’s economy where creators of all kinds are destined to flourish and thrive in greater numbers.
The internet has truly revolutionised creativity and talent and we must be willing to tap into it and share what each of us has to offer.
I believe all of us want to feel this joy of creating something we can call our very own- from the process to the end result.
I hear many of my friends, brothers and sisters say they want to start something, create something of their own, but don’t know what.
If you’re struggling with the same, but have the desire of creating something at the back of your mind, then this post is for you.
Here I have listed out 20 ideas along with useful links to help you give inspiration and ideas for creating something of your own.
P.S You can just create them as hobbies or you can take them as small and big business ideas to make a side or a significant income.
I hope it gives you the inspiration to take action and try out something new in the pursuit of what your heart finds exciting.
20 ideas for creating something of your own
Table of Contents
1. Create your own blog
Of course, the first idea I would be giving you had to be starting your own blog since blogging has been such a blessing for me.
If you’re into writing, have a passion for something, have certain tips on a topic, or would want to learn about a topic, then starting a blog would be the best idea.
This blog gave me the satisfaction of creating something I can call entirely my own. I created it through and through down to the details and it gives me so much joy to see it growing.

2. Create your own podcast
This is the age of creators. This is the age of sharing your ideas online no matter what medium.
If you are stubborn enough not to give up, no matter what medium you choose, you WILL gain an audience for it if you do things from your heart and keep believing.
Over the past year, I have been listening to a few podcasts and I love it because one can listen to it anywhere and while doing anything.
They’re such great means of consuming knowledge easily.
One can listen to it while driving, cooking, commuting, walking, and gain knowledge, wisdom, and tips simultaneously.
This new year I can’t wait to start my own podcast.
If you have just anything which you would want to share with the world, would want to interview people and gain knowledge from their experiences, please don’t hesitate to also share it with the world.
Please don’t let your mind talk you out of it.
Don’t be afraid to get people talking in the pursuit of your heart’s true desires.
The world is in need of creators who know they have something to offer.
3. Create your own email newsletter
Creating your newsletter will be something entirely your own because once your newsletter has a loyal reader base it will be there regardless of whether Instagram or any social media channels remain or not.
Starting a newsletter is easy, but for this, you would also need to build your following along with your newsletter.
If you have a good following already, or if you want to build an even more loyal follower base then you can start your own newsletter.
A newsletter will be a space where you can be entirely your own and share your work in greater depth which can easily reach the audience through email.
Here are some things you can share in your newsletter
- Any learnings and revelations
- Poems
- Writings
- Any links
- Affiliate products
- Your e-books
- Your own products etc
Here is how to easily start an email newsletter.
4. Create your own YouTube channel
I don’t think there is anyone who has never thought of starting their own YouTube channel someday.
We all wish we did, don’t we?
If you are someone who’s not camera shy, and would want to learn to edit and share your ideas or anything through video mode, let this be the year you create your YouTube channel.
If you already know how to make reels and share them on Instagram, then the best investment of your time and energy would actually be to upload your videos on YouTube.
Don’t let perfectionism stop you from doing what you can.
Allow yourself to be a beginner and allow yourself to suck in your first 100 videos. That’s how you’ll learn, but it will be so worth it.
Here are some short posts you might love to read:

I love music, not as a creator, but as a consumer.
They make me so happy. I don’t know much about music, but I know that the creative process for every artist is the same.
If you are into music, devote your time and energy to creating your own music.
6. Create a service-based business
Similarly, you can create any service-based business catering to a specific problem or need people might be facing.
To start a business, it’s not just enough to ‘do something you love’, but to do something that would serve a need and a specific problem.
All the big businesses serve a particular need if you look closely.
- Uber-serving the need to instantly find drivers
- Instamart-serving the need of not having to go out for grocery
- Zomato- serving the need to order food online easily
- Netflix- serving the need to relax and chill!
If you can identify problems, but can’t find any solution, or can offer an even better solution to them, then you can create your service-based business.
Let’s look at the problems people are facing closely and bring awareness to people’s complaints in everyday life.
There you will get your next service-based idea.
I have actually come up with quite a few myself!
7. Create digital products
If you want to start your own online business, then creating your own digital products would be something to do.
All throughout my blogging journey, it was the digital products such as e-books, digital templates, images, and courses I bought that helped me in growing this blog.
People are really keen on buying and learning if you can give them something of value.
You don’t have to be an expert, but you can start somewhere.
I have come to know that the people who are consuming things unintentionally and without any awareness are the ones who are dissatisfied in life.
Whereas those who are devoting at least some of their time to learning and creating something they can call their own have greater satisfaction and enthusiasm in life.
It pays to learn digital skills in this age of the Internet revolution.
Here are some digital products ideas one can make
8. Create an e-book
If you have a book idea, a tutorial for teaching something, or a how-to guide, e-books are a wonderful thing to create.
If you already have a following, then you can share your ideas and learn in e-book format. You can give this away for free or for a certain price.
You can also sell e-books on amazon and it doesn’t require much hassle.
9. Create an online course
I am so grateful for all the online courses I took to learn to blog. It paid me back in return more than 10 times the amount I spent on buying those courses.
On my own, I would have taken so much longer to learn.
If you have something to offer, something to teach, and you are confident that it provides value and can give results to your target audience, go on and create your own online course.
There are courses for how to create courses, courses for becoming a minimalist, courses for decluttering, courses for manifesting your dream life, courses for how to let go of a relationship and every possible thing you can think of.
People these days want to learn everything online, and as much as there is a lot of free information out there, there is still a huge number of people who would want to have everything ready-made that would help them save time and energy.
So don’t think that no one would buy your course. Don’t think that your learnings and your experiences won’t matter.
There will always be an audience who would want to learn something you have to offer IF you are able to first generate trust and show them that your course will definitely give them results.
10. Create your own workshop/conference/retreat
You can also create a workshop/conference around a theme or a topic to give awareness over a problem or to teach a community something you have to offer- sustainability, photography, research, business, anything!
You can seek the help of other creative people and jointly organize a workshop or a conference of your own.
You can do this monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually and build an audience for it.
TedTalks that we know now first began as a small conference that wanted to share ideas on Technology, entertainment and Design
The biggest workshops in the world attract thousands of audience with entry passes as high as $50,000 and people willing to learn and listen.

You can create Instagram story templates, post templates, Pinterest pin templates, e-book covers, podcast covers, etc for them.

If you are into drawing and art or want to enhance your art, take up courses on Udemy or Skillshare and learn it.
Create your own art and print store.
Wouldn’t it be lovely to see your prints hanging somewhere bringing joy to someone’s home, if you’re not planning to start a store, even just creating for yourself is something so wonderful.
When I just create some paintings and drawings just for myself, they make me happy and bring me so much satisfaction too.
17. Create your own app
This might sound a bit overboard, but yes, you can also create your own app.
I have listened to podcasts where some people created their own apps learning about coding all on their own in a few months’ time.
Of course, it takes a lot of time, dedication and money, but it’s not impossible.
If you are already into coding and have knowledge about it, then why not give it a try?
18. Create your own photography/videography service
As the creators are rising in this age, they are in huge need of photography and videography services.
You can be a freelancer and give your service or you can create an online store which provides brilliant photos and videos for creators.
I myself rely on a photography service named ivory mix for the images for my site and I have signed up for a 1-year membership service.
I will definitely subscribe again.
I believe photography is a wonderful hobby and it can be taken the next step further if you decide to and if you have something which people would be greatly helped with.
19. Create stories and poems
If you are into writing, then give time to writing stories, creative writing and poems.
You can join retreats, take up online courses and buy e-books to learn more about the process.
Create an Instagram page and share your work or put them up on your website.
As Yung Pueblo says, “Do the Earth a favour. Don’t hide your magic”
20. Create your own community
Lastly, you can work on creating your own community. It may be online or offline. You can work on building your community of like-minded people who share the same values as you around any specific theme or topic.
We all love to feel inspired and be a source of inspiration for others no matter how little a ripple it may create.
Creating ripples of inspiration, big and small everywhere is all that matters.
So here were all the ideas I had for creating something of your own.
Start at least one of them this new year and keep going.
Stop being only an unaware consumer and start being a conscious creator- of anything!
Devote yourself to learning about it. Allow yourself to make mistakes, be kind to yourself and work on building it patiently for one whole year no matter what.
Don’t think it’s too late. You will always think it is too late and later regret if you only had started sooner. I feel the same for all the things I didn’t start then or quit midway.
Time passes anyway, no matter whether you decide to start now or whether you don’t. It’s better to start now.
So let us create something as a gift to the world, as a gift to ourselves.
It is how we will weave magic into our life.
