Have you started a blog but are clueless about what to do next? If yes, then in this post I have put out some great blogging tips for beginners like you to help you know what you should be focusing on in your first 3 months of starting a blog to actually be successful.
I say three months because from my own personal experience I have found that three months is a considerably good amount of time to learn new things, make progress in your blogging journey, and actually see the results of it.
I started this blog a year ago but wasn’t serious about blogging. But it’s been three months since I decided I would make this blog successful, give one last try before I gave up, and get serious about blogging.
I made certain changes and to my surprise, in just these 3 months I saw tremendous improvement in my blog.
From less than 1000 pageviews I grew my blog traffic to 12,000 then 30,000 and then more than 50,000 pageviews in my third month! (I have written about it here)
So in this post, I tell you exactly what 10 things you need to do and focus on in your first three months of starting a blog.
Now if I had to start again, these are exactly the things I would focus on. These are the 10 things that will ensure your blogging success and make your blogging adventure so much smoother and easier. Make sure to read all and follow through.

1. Write down your blogging goals
Table of Contents
You absolutely cannot go by being successful with blogging (or anything in life) until and unless you write down your goals.
What are your reasons for starting a blog? Maybe it is to share your thoughts with the world, to start making money from your blog, or to start your own business.
Whatever it is, write down your blogging goals and if possible break them down into quantifiable numbers. Anything that can be measured can be improved.
When I decided to get serious about blogging, the first change I did was to write down my blogging goals for the next 6 months. I wrote down my blog traffic goal and my blog posting goal.
I also wrote down my blogging intentions of what I wanted to see from my blog, how I want to write, and set a vision of how I want my blog to be after 5 years.
2. Organize your blog
Another important thing to do in your first three months of starting your blog is to take your time out to really think about the things you want to blog about.
This is crucial if you want to organize your blog.
Often we are not clear about what exactly we want to blog about and we end up writing one blog post about this and one about that.
And the result?
No traction and authority in any of the categories.
So what I want you to do is to think about what you want to blog about. Figure out the categories you want to blog about. Go for 3 categories or a maximum of 4. For me, it is Self Improvement, Lifestyle, and Blogging and I make sure all my posts revolve around these 3 categories.
Find your categories, organize them in your blog and stick with them.
P.S If you seem to be messed up with your blogging categories and don’t know how to organize your blog, here is an affordable ebook on how to organize a blog with multiple topics by one of my favorite bloggers.
3. Invest in your blogging education from the start
No one, absolutely no one has become successful in blogging without investing in blogging education.
The longer you hesitate to invest in learning about blogging, the longer it will take for you to start seeing results and become successful in blogging.
I wish I had invested in learning about blogging as soon as I started. If you’re hesitating spending money on learning about blogging, I want to assure you that it will absolutely pay off (once you apply the knowledge)
You can read all the free articles out there but what I’ve come to know is that not everything comes free.
If you dream of making money from your blog someday it is absolutely essential that you invest both your time and your money in blogging education.
Till now I have invested in just these 4 affordable but great courses and like I told you I already gained 50k pageviews in just three months. I would credit it to these courses and ebooks.
- Pinteresting Strategies by Carly (who gets around 200k monthly pageviews from Pinterest)
- Traffic Transformation Guide by Lena Gott (who shares here all the strategies she used to go from 17k to 400k pageviews in 10 months)
- Easy On Page SEO by Debbie Gartner (still reading)
- Easy Backlinks for SEO (Haven’t started)
Now I have made out a list of all the courses I want to take and after finishing each one and having applied it, I have decided to proceed with the next.
4. Come up with great blog post ideas
The next thing to do after starting a blog is to take the time out to find great blog post ideas focusing on great keywords related to your niche.
Finding great blog post ideas is a must to make your blogging journey easy and consistent. You’re more likely to be consistent when you already know what you’re going to write about.
For the longest time, I didn’t know how bloggers came up with fresh new content ideas every single week. But it’s actually not that difficult.
You can come up with endless blog post ideas in one sitting. When I did it for myself, I did it in one evening and I am set for months.
If you’re struggling to find blog post ideas, then here is my easy guide on where to find endless blog post ideas for any niche.
5. Plan out your blog content
Another thing you should do in your first three months of starting a blog is to plan out your blog content.
Planning your blog content means creating a blog content strategy which is an absolute must if you want to organize and grow your blog.
Planning your blog content essentially comes down to two things:
Organizing your blog posts ideas andCreating a content calendar.
P.S Here is a step by step guide to plan your blog content for a whole year!
6. Write quality content
Perhaps the most important thing- Writing quality content. Nothing replaces it.
Often most bloggers end up scattering their energies on too many minutes unessential things which could be better spent in writing great quality content.
Once you find out great blog post ideas for all the categories you are going to write about in your blog, focus as much time and energy on writing quality content.
The more, the better. Be consistent in posting and the result is certain.
7. Master Pinterest
Pinterest is a goldmine for all bloggers. I regret not starting Pinterest for my blog immediately and it’s one of the biggest mistakes I made as a beginner blogger.
In fact, it’s the biggest mistake if any blogger isn’t using Pinterest to grow their blog.
Getting results from Pinterest doesn’t take as long as Google SEO traffic. If you want to start gaining traffic for your blog then get started with Pinterest immediately if you haven’t.
My 50k pageviews in 3 months are all free Pinterest traffic. If I had focused from the start this number would have been much higher!
In order to get started with Pinterest, the course which I took was Carly’s Pinteresting Strategies.
This course has all the A-Z of Pinterest and it is her manual pinning strategies that actually helped me more than 50k monthly pageview (as of Sept 2021) in just 3 months when all the people say Pinterest traffic is not as easy to gain as before.
From my experience, I can say that Pinterest is still a great source of traffic.
Pinteresting strategy is the best course on Pinterest out there and at such an affordable cost. I couldn’t recommend it enough.
8. Focus on one thing at a time
When you’re just starting out on blogging there will be many things that will catch your attention.
At some point, you might start feeling that there are too many things left to do and too many things to learn- there’s Pinterest, there’s keyword research, there’s SEO, there’s email marketing, and what not.
But in your first three months and even after your first three months of starting a blog, learn to take things slow and focus on one thing at a time.
Till now I had been focusing on Pinterest and I still am. Now that I have gained a certain amount of knowledge about how this whole Pinterest thing works, I am now getting started with SEO. After SEO I have decided to get started with email marketing and so on.
I am taking one new course each month. Last month I read Traffic Transformation Guide by Lena Gott. The ebook is amazing and it has been really helpful in knowing what to do and what not to do as bloggers.
So take your time and learn new things about blogging. Don’t spread yourself thin and enjoy the learning process as a beginner.
9. Focus on one social media platform
It’s easy to scatter your attention and try to promote on all the platforms like Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, etc in the hopes that it will work for you.
But I would say that in your first three months of starting a blog, simply focus on mastering one platform (recommend Pinterest), and then as you start seeing growth in there you can find another platform to master.
10. Get started with SEO
Lastly, three months is a good amount of time to get started with learning about SEO which is Search Engine Optimization.
There is SEO you need to do for both Pinterest and Google. Get started with it within your first three months of starting a blog and you will reach your goals sooner.
For learning about SEO I have bought Debbie Gartner’s SEO bundle which includes ‘Easy on Page SEO’ and ‘Easy Backlinks for SEO’.
I’m still going through it and I will definitely give my review after I finish it and get results from it.
So these are the things to do in your first three months of starting a blog. Do it slowly and take your time out, 1 hour or 2 hours a day for blogging and you’re good to go.
If you do these 10 things it’s going to make your blogging journey much smoother.

- 10 things to do before starting a blog

All the best and happy Blogging!
