My genuine blogging advice to new bloggers
Table of Contents
Have you started a new blog recently or are wanting to start one? Today I am sharing my advice for all you new bloggers with the hope that this blogging advice helps you keep up with your journey, and to hopefully help you remember these advice when you get discouraged along the way.
I started my blog back in 2020 with zero blogging knowledge and it has only been a little over six months since I started to see the growth I wished to have for my blog.
I too haven’t become an expert in blogging. There’s still a lot to learn and implement, but I surely have passed that stage new bloggers find themselves in- clueless, intimidated and overwhelmed.
But what matters is you keep going and say to yourself, ‘But still I am not discouraged’
So without any delay, here goes my 10 best blogging advice for you

Blog Advice #1 ~ You have not started too late
Like everyone, I thought that 2020 was too late to start a blog, but it wasn’t. It’s 2022 now, and I am so glad I started.
You might think now that 2022 is too late to start a blog, but it’s not. There is still time and there is still a lot of scope.
If you think you should have started a year ago, or two years ago, even then, at that point in time, you would still be thinking the same like me- ‘Maybe I started too late’
But time will pass anyway, and if you think you started too late, next year again you may be saying, ‘Already a year has gone by, I should have started last year’.
So just remember the Chinese proverb,
‘The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now’
Also, don’t think that there are already many established blogs out there in your niche. There may be, but the internet is vast, and there is no lack.
There is and will always be space for you to make your footing and stand out. After all, you are you, and they are they.
Blogging advice #2~ Write your blog posts thinking of one person
This is one of the best advice I got when I was starting out, so I want to pass this on to you as well.
We often think that when we’re writing for the public, a whole lot of audience will be reading us, and so we become so scared that words just won’t flow.
But think of your blog posts as an informal letter to your friend, or to someone who you want to help with your knowledge.
Just imagine you’re writing for that one person.
This will make your readers (no matter how many) feel that you are writing just for them, and they will feel connected.
I have even heard that many bloggers start writing blog posts in their email addressing their friend, just to get the feel of it.
Blog advice #3 ~ Focus on making your readers ‘feel’ good
As a content creator, it is our biggest responsibility to first value our audience. And as a blogger, it is our readers.
Remember that your readers are all humans, and we humans love to feel things. Also, we remember things which we feel.
As Maya Angelou has said,
‘People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but they will never forget how you made them feel’.
Your part of the internet might be just a small portion in this vast world, but it makes a difference. Aim to make a difference by focusing on making your readers ‘feel’ good.
Don’t just aim for page views and don’t just aim for more visitors to your site, but aim that you provide something of value to each of your reader when they first come across your site and read your post.
This is not something so easily done, but with consistency and clear intention, if you write from the heart, and not just for the sake of writing or page views, over time you will make your readers feel something, and it will satisfy you.
4. Take your blog as a business
The only way to succeed in blogging is by taking your blog as a business and make investments.
But if you ask, ‘what should I invest in blogging that will pay off and multiply my revenue?’
The answer to it is, ‘Invest in learning about blogging, invest in things that helps you grow your blogging knowledge, and things that will make your blogging journey easier’.
You don’t have to take a bunch of courses. Just start with the one you actually need instead of squirming on the internet from one topic to another.
I would say, also don’t hire others to do things for you in the beginning. Learn them yourself. You will make plenty of mistakes, and even get frustrated, but that is how you will learn.
You should first learn to manage your blog, which is your business yourself. The more you level yourself up with your blogging knowledge, the more your blog will pay you off and pay you back in dividends.
Don’t hesitate to make investments. The longer you hesitate, the longer you delay your own blogging success.
Learn from me, and don’t make the same mistakes I made as a beginner blogger.
5. Your Blog will take time to grow
As with any other endeavour, your blog too will take time to grow. If you expect immediate success, you will unnecessarily bring in stress and frustration.
I was making $0 from my blog for the first one and a half years. It took me almost a year to get even 10k page views a month.
And after taking my blog seriously from July 2021, this (January 2022) is the first time I crossed 100k page views a month.
So blogging takes time. It takes time to learn. It takes time to settle, and then get established.
Think of it like graduating.
You don’t graduate in just a few months. It takes 3 years for you to graduate and years of schooling.
Then it takes another set of exams to pass, another couple of months to go through the interview process, get the results, and finally you land up on a good job, if you go the conventional way.
So if you aren’t impatient with other things, give some time to something as unconventional as blogging too.
I would say, at least give your blogging journey a little more than a year. But in this one year, go all in. Allow yourself to be a beginner, to learn, to make mistakes, and to grow.
If you do, it is inevitable that your blog will grow.
6. Be yourself and slowly you will find your voice
Be yourself when you’re writing. Don’t just write for the sake of writing, or write simply for filling up the information, but give a part of you in each of your writing.
I always try to write about my experiences and my feelings in my blog posts. Without it, I feel it loses significance and the writing becomes too coarse, and no fun.
Blogging is something you should start to share your inner world, and not only for the sake of making extra income, so don’t write just for the sake of writing.
Let it be something meaningful for you as well as for your reader.
When you are yourself, and you share from your heart, you will slowly find your voice.
But remember, this too will take time. I feel I am only finally finding mine.
7. Don’t spread yourself thin
It’s easy to get swayed away in the beginning and be highly optimistic (which is good), but just try to step back and don’t spread yourself too thin.
Don’t spread yourself thin by trying to be active on Facebook, opening an Instagram page, twitter account, and everything in the hopes to increase traffic.
I have done it, and it’s just not worth the effort.
The little page views you might get from all these channels hardly make a difference, if unless you have a huge following.
So don’t bother with it. Instead just focus your energy on one platform. And the only platform I advice you to start with and give all your focus to is- PINTEREST.
My 100k pageviews in less than 20 days is 80% Pinterest traffic. Yes, Pinterest is still great in 2022!!
If you want to learn more about pinterest and what courses I took to learn Pinterest, then follow these posts on:

After you get hold on Pinterest- you can then also give our energy to learning other platforms- even then I would suggest that platform to be Google and learn SEO.
Anyway, Pinterest is a gold mine for bloggers, and it’s easy to get started and gain traction from Pinterest.
8. Don’t compare your journey
It’s easy to make comparisons with other established blogs out there, and feel like you’ll never be able to reach that position.
But at one point they too were beginners, and just like you. They kept going, they kept adding, and over time they build their blog.
So whenever comparisons strike, try to step back from it, and come back to your blog in the present moment.
Don’t compare your chapter 1 with some one else’s chapter 10. Instead, find inspiration from them.
What did you like most about their blog? Or what did you didn’t like? Whose blog touched you and made you feel something?
Try to incorporate them into your blog. Find inspiration from them, and set your vision for your blog straight whenever feelings of comparisons set in.
Let it instead bring you more enthusiasm for what is possible for you too.
If they could, you can too. But you need to bring your focus back to you, do some planning, be patient and be consistent.
9. It will be messy in the beginning
I am not going to give you false hope and tell you that its going to be great from the start.
But I want to advice you straight away to expect some messiness in the beginning and for a long time.
And if you’re completely new to blogging, expect some more messiness as you navigate the ins and outs of the blogging world.
Its going to be a messy process, and you’ll be wanting to quit a lot of times, but remember that progress is not always linear, and it is in a mess, that we end up learning (as long as we keep going)
So my advice for you is to,
- Allow yourself to be a beginner
- Allow yourself to go slow
- Set out your to-do lists and plan efficiently
- You don’t have to have all the knowledge before you begin.
- In fact, it is only once you begin, that you learn.
10. Allow yourself to be discouraged
If I had given up just by the sheer number of times I had been discouraged, I wouldn’t ever be here writing this blog post.
We feel that when we start something, we shouldn’t ever be discouraged. That being discouraged is a shame. But its wrong.
We are humans and we are bound to be discouraged. If we weren’t ever discouraged, what success story will we even have?
So I would say, allow yourself to be discouraged, because at some point or the other you will.
I still expect myself to be discouraged, and when I do this, it actually helps me to be okay with it, and not give up.
11. No amount of time spent on improving your blog is a waste of time
I know this might sound cliche, but the time you spend on writing blog posts, improving your blog, on learning about blogging, and even the time spent by making mistakes – none of it will be a waste of time.
You just have to be consistent and develop a thick skin at first to keep going even without seeing any results.
If you feel you might not be able to be consistent, don’t worry. We all feel so. Here are few things to help you become a consistent blogger. This will help.
In fact, when I was starting, I am glad I realised this fact early and wrote my thoughts on this in this post- Why you should be okay with wasting time.
You may not see any results for a long time, but as long as you spend atleast 1 hour in your day to improve in your blogging journey, everything is compounding secretly.
12. Don’t be too attached to your blog
And my last blogging advice for you is to not be too attached to your blog.
Even as you grow and become successful, try your best to not get too attached to your blog, otherwise you will end up being too consumed by it.
There will be many things you can’t control. Sometimes your traffic will be up, and sometimes it will be down for no apparent reason.
Simply relax, let go and do your best. Things will take care of its own as long as you do the work.
Final Blogging Advice
Finally, my only blogging advice for you is to keep going and make your ‘why’ strong. If your ‘Why’ is strong, it will help you go further.
Blogging will be uncomfortable in the start, but it is what will help you go beyond your comfort zone.
Blogging will teach you things about yourself too, so just keep pushing and don’t give up as long as you are clear about your intentions.
So these were my best blogging advice for you. I hope you found them helpful. If you did, which advice are you really taking from me?
I hope you find your blogging success.
You definitely will if you keep going.
All the best!
